Anish is 37 years old IT professional staying in Bangalore. He has the perfect life one can ever imagine: a loving wife, an energetic five years old kid, healthy parents, a six-digit monthly salary, a 3BHK flat at Whitefield, a sedan car and everything you wish. However, inside he was not happy. He used to get annoyed about small things. He always felt some discomfort within himself. When he shared the same with his wife, they went to see the best doctor. He had to undergo n number of tests, and the reports seemed fine. The doctor confirmed that physically he seemed to be fit, and soon he should go for a mental wellness checkup. He got annoyed and said, I am not stupid to spend on such stuff. His wife persuaded him to visit a physiologist.
With much reluctance, he booked an appointment with a physiologist. The first session with the physiologist was an ice breaker session. He could not open up with her. As the sessions progressed, he could see a change in himself.
The main thing that was lacking in his life was “ME TIME”.
What is ME time?
- It is the time that we take out for ourselves – to relax our body, mind and soul.
- It is the time when we make an appointment with ourselves. No family, friends or anyone is involved.
- It is time to detox and rejuvenate.
- It is time to recharge.
How to find ME time?
- Take a few minutes out of your busy schedule.
- Make sure you are not being disturbed during that period.
- Switch off your TV and phone.
What to do during your ME time?
- Value yourself.
- Respect yourself.
- Start loving yourself.
- Do whatever you enjoy – You can sing, dance, do exercise, meditation, chant mantras, cook something, stitch, draw, paint, nap etc.
- Start writing a journal.
- You can make a gratitude diary.
- Say a few positive affirmations.
- Do not utilize the time for commercial benefit. In my opinion, if you do so, you would be running again in the rat race.
Why is it necessary to have ME time?
- Helps in self-introspection.
- Improves understanding of our emotions.
- Increases optimistic approach towards life.
- Releases happy hormones.
- Helps us to perform better in life.
- Makes us more creative and happy.
Anish realized that all these days, he was striving to be the best son, husband, father, friend, colleague. Now he is the best self who is Nourishing Himself to Flourish.
